iWay network promotes cycling

Hastings District Council have taken an innovative approach to actively promote cycling on a key route between Hastings and Havelock North. The Eco Display Sign shows real time live electronic display counts of 'cyclists today' and 'cyclists this year'

The sign was installed as part of a second phase roll out of additional permanent counters along the iWay network. As part of the Community Models project there has been a large investment towards developing pedestrian and cycle pathways and facilities for commuters.

The need to track the number of cyclists using these new and existing facilities, plays an important part in securing future maintenance and additional funding grants towards promoting walking and cycling throughout Hastings.

To date there has been a steady increase in cycling along this popular route with a daily average of around 200 cyclists.
