Dunedin City rolls out cycle counters

Dunedin City Council have taken a step forward rolling out the first stage of their automatic cycle and pedestrian counters on key routes throughout the city utilising Eco Counter monitoring units supplied and installed by Be Counted Technology Ltd in conjunction with Downer NZ.
The sites include 2 offroad shared footpaths and 1 on road cycle lane in each direction.
All equipment is synced into a cloud based software package for ease of analysis and reporting.
The council hope to use the data for justification into further budget for cycling initiatives as well as to promote cycling trends throughout the city aiming to increase the percentage of commutes by foot or bike.
